A A Sample of Recent Results in Civil State and Federal Court Matters:

* Lead trial attorney defending a small business client sued by a large insurance company for payment of oustanding insurance premiums.  After trial, Mr. Long obtained a defense verdict, and the client owed the insurance company nothing. SCIF v. AMP Tree Service 

* Lead trial attorney in a personal injury trial where the offer was $26,000.00 before trial, and the verdict was $57,500.00. AC v. AV.

* Lead trial attorney in Federal District Court, Santa Ana, in which Mr. Long achieved a defense verdict for his client who was being sued for over $2,500,000.00 in connection with the sale of his medical practice. Mehria Safari, DDS v. Gediz Barnar, DDS; Case No.: 8.8-AP-01415-TA.


 * Mr. Long was retained during a jury trial to replace a client's then trial attorney after the jury found liability, damages and that punitive damages should be awarded.  The client was a business being sued on several tort theories for intentionally interfering with the defendant's business and subsequently taking it over. The plaintiff sought millions of dollars in punitive damages from Mr. Long's client, but was only awarded $100,000.00. Mr. Long's client had offered $400,000.00 to settle prior to the verdict on the punitive damages phase of the case, which Mr. Long tried. * Successful appeal for a business client who was found individually liable, in addition to his corporation, for a significant judgment involving a business dispute.  This was an important appellate matter to prevail on because the corporation was found to only be liable for the judgment and not the individual owner. * Successful appeal in Federal Tort Claims Act case brought by a business man who was convicted of a federal crime based on the perjury of a federal witness.  Granting of government's motion for summary judgment of the client's malicious prosecution case reversed on appeal. S. Mullen* Real estate litigation appeal relief from a bankruptcy stay order, challenging bona fide purchaser for value claim. F.S.

* Represented the Coalition to Save the Marina, which served on behalf of over 800 residents of the City of Marina Del Rey.   Represented the Coalition against several governmental entities and developers to protect the Marina's environment and rights of the Marina tenants in connection with the use and enjoyment of the Marina. The litigation resulted in a settlement that conferred several public benefits to the Marina tenants including the imposition of numerous conditions on the development of the Marina to minimize any adverse environmental impact and maximize the use and enjoyment of the Marina. The Coalition also received a substantial sum of money to allow it to further its cause. The Coalition to Save the Marina v. Goldberg & Kest, Los Angeles Superior Court

* Represented a large warehousing and trucking company in an interference with business relations case against a large competitor and several other companies represented by some large law Los Angeles law firms. The litigation resulted in a seven figure settlement for my client. - Manhattan Transfer & Distribution. 

* Extensive experience in pharmaceutical class action litigation handling numerous Phen-Fen and Baycol cases in which I managed the files, processed the claims, set up medical clinics, handled the marketing and regularly corresponded with physicians and examined thousands of pages of medical records.

* Retained by nationwide security company with $20,000,000.00 payroll.  HGL
handled several employment and business litigation matters for the company, all of which resulted in defense verdicts or dismissals with the client paying no more than nuisance value.  Also, the company's insurance costs jumped from 84% to 98% in a very brief time period. I stopped the increase through analysis of claims handling, reserving practices, joint coverage and coding issues, subrogation, formulation and execution of aggressive plans of action, etc. and saved the company several hundred thousand dollars - WSA, Group
